Maybe you can’t drop everything today and go on a picnic, but you really should think about doing it soon. This weekend would be an ideal time to go on a picnic.
The first thing you need to do is grab your knitting storage bag, find a good pattern and knit yourself a picnic basket. That’s right, there are any number of patterns you can find on the internet for picnic baskets of all colors and sizes. Once you have a nice picnic basket knitted, you don't have an excuse not to go.
Here are a few reasons you need to go on a picnic.
It’s an Escape
It has probably been a long time since you have been on a picnic, if ever. It may even have been a long time since you have done anything in a nature setting.
You spend most of your mealtimes at a desk, the dinner table or maybe even on the couch, that’s OK, we don’t judge. A picnic offers you the opportunity to dine in a natural setting, with the sun on your shoulders and a gentle breeze. Time will slow down and you will appreciate the beauty all around you.
What’s even better is that even the simplest of meals, like a PBJ, tastes so much better on a picnic. Nobody knows why, it could be magic.
Even though a picnic might be a small escape from the real world, it feels like a mini vacation.
It’s one thing to enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of nature when you go for a hike, but it’s a whole new experience when you are enjoying nature on a picnic.
There is nothing that can compare to eating an awesome sandwich among the grass, trees, birds and whatever other beasts happen to be there. A picnic is a perfect opportunity to be at one with nature and good food all at the same time.
Picnics are Inexpensive
Like we stated earlier, even the simplest of foods taste amazing while on a picnic. So there is no need to spend a lot of money on fancy foods for your picnic.
Eating out is an expensive venture, for the price of dinner at a fancy steakhouse, you could go on several picnics.
If you are like most families, dinners at home probably consist of work-related chit-chat between parents while kids are fiddling with their smartphones. You have nice family dinners when you go out, but there are distractions at restaurants as well that interrupt a good conversation.
But when you take the family on a picnic, there is nothing to interrupt your conversations and family time. Kids can’t get any bars in the forest, so their smartphones are useless and picnics are without waitstaff asking you how your food is six times over the course of the meal.
Basically, when you take the family on a picnic, you get several hours of bonding time and no interruptions.
Going on a picnic is not only about the food, there are other activities to engage in as well. Since you are in a beautiful natural area, a hike might be in order.
Picnics are also all about games, so tossing a frisbee or a little flag football are in order.
Picnics are a great way to relieve the stresses of the day. You will be amazed at what a little sunshine and good food will do to your mood.
While picnics offer a number of social benefits, there are no rules that state you have to spend the entire time talking with somebody. A picnic is a perfect opportunity to spend a little time meditating or just thinking about your life in general.
The sun is our main source of vitamin D, and going on a picnic is a good way to soak up some much-needed vitamin D for healthy bones.
Not only that, but the picnic food you make is probably a lot more healthy that a lot of the places you go out to eat. So it can be said that going on a picnic is good for your health.
So seriously consider going on a picnic this weekend.
